The Championship Game for basketball almost never happened what with the rainy weather we had been having for several weeks in a row but by September 30, players took advantage of the good weather and started the championship round. During the last battle between the Pink and Blue Teams, the Pink Women’s Volleyball team won the championship and this put a lot of pressure on the male ball players to clinch the basketball championship to make sure that the Pink Team does not get the overall champion title.

By 2:30 PM, one could already feel the fevered pitch of the game as spectators, basketball fans and team mates as the two teams squared it off on the court. It was one of the most exciting basketball games the resort ever had as each player aggressively fought for points, with cuts, bruises, leg cramps and spills to show for their efforts.

During the first three quarters of the game, the Pink Team lead by 15 points with the Blue Team trailing behind. It looked like the Pink team had the championship under its belt as players in the Blue Team steadily failed to close the gap between the team scores. But with their do or die attitude, the Blue Team persevered and by the fourth and final quarter, they were edging out the Pink Team in a series of calculated foul plays that decimated the Pink Team’s stronger players. In the last 27 seconds, the score went 75 – 76 with Pink leading by one point but a free throw from Edgar of the Blue Team, the score evened and when the Blue team made another 2- point shot, the scale tipped in their favor.

By the last few seconds, Edgar again made two more 2-point shots and by the time the horn sounded to end the game, the Blue Team got the championship over the Pink Team with a score of 80-76. The intensity and excitement generated by the game had become too much that guests, Henrik and Monika just had to give 3 cases of beer to the victorious Blue Team and to the sports fest committee as well for such a job well done.
