Boo!!! Angelika the scary but friendly ghost As part of the Halloween festivities at Coco Beach Island Resort, the Info-Activity Centre prepared some Halloween games for the children. The games consisted of two traditional Filipino games held at the children’s playground last Saturday, October 31, 2009.
Sunny and Kate getting their free Coco shirt after wining the pot hitting game To start the games, Sunny Kim from Korea tried to hit the clay pot filled with treats and goodies while he was blindfolded. The game is similar to the Mexican Pinata where a child tries to break the pot and if he is successful, the treats are released and a mad scramble to get them ensues. Sunny broke the pot after two tries and his mom, Kate Kim, also won in the Mom’s division. Mother and son won a specially designed Coco Beach t-shirt and Sunny also got a henna tattoo for free from our in-house artist.
The children during the pabitin After this game, the children were treated to another Filipino game called “pabitin”, where children have to jump as high as they can to get treats and goodies hanging from a frame made of bamboo slats. The trick is as you try to jump, the “pabitin” is jerked upwards to prevent you from getting a treat.
What's for dinner? I guess Jerry is! Then the special creepy Halloween dinner which included a mean wicked witch’s soup with zombie fingers (breadsticks that really looked like dead fingers with nails made from roasted peanuts), Dracula’s beef goulash, steamed sea creatures, black bat rice (steamed white rice mixed in squid ink) and baked monster’s eyes (tomatoes topped with cheese and olives) just to name a few of the menu. For dessert, Casper cupcakes and Graveyard cake with cookie headstones were a hit with the guests.
Thomas and Susanne Voight...hmmm, who's that third one? Are we seeing ghosts? The entire Carabao restaurant were decorated with silver broomsticks and Halloween masks and monsters at the Anito Bar. Waiters and waitresses served food and drinks wearing scary but beautifully painted paper masks.
Regine the devil and Jean the ghost Master Nathaniel Vann, 9 years old, won the best in Halloween costume when he came dressed in all white, with a ghost mask complete with scary pose. Other contestants who joined included devils, skeletons, zombies and monsters. For wearing the best Halloween costume, Nathaniel and his family will be having a dinner at the Doña Lina Revolving Restaurant when they come back to Coco beach in three week’s time.
Persian ghosts Mohammadreza and Arash For entertainment, the Coco Band played their very best with their line up of popular tunes and also dressed for the occasion. Guests also requested for their favorite songs which the band gamely performed. |
